Although Health and Safety has only become an industry priority in the recent past, it has always been at the top of our agenda. This is proven by our Health and Safety record which is second to none amongst our peers. In an industry widely considered to be dangerous, we have never had a fatality – an achievement matched by few.| | | | | John Burch receives the British Safety Council Award on behalf of H Smith Engineers |
Health and Safety is most certainly at the forefront whenever we find ourselves in Nuclear, Railway or Industrial Demolition sites. Managing Director Keith Roshier is continually involved with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Demolition Industry Safety Forum addressing live safety issues and helping to re-draft the new Demolition Guidance Notes. Our in-house SHE Manager is qualified to DipSM and MIIRSM and takes an active role in all our sites. Our commitment to Health and Safety in everything we do is underlined by our development and patenting of the innovative TracLoc safety device. In all the projects we undertake, care for the surrounding environment is paramount. A perfect example of this was the installation of noise screens and extensive noise monitoring on our Great Ormond Street Hospital project. We are environmentally certified to ISO:14001. When we work on projects, especially those in the Public sector, we always liaise with the Local Authorities to become actively involved in their Local Employment and Training Initiatives. For example, following a previous blow down at Rowan Court we still to this day employ several operatives that were recruited through Local Training and Employment initiatives.
